[Tomorrow's Spring Break! The Happiness Factor approaches infinity again.]

My roommate, Rene, proposed a while back–but before he did, I snapped some shots of the ring! I promised I wouldn’t take the photos to the tabloids too quickly, so I’ve kept these shots in the archives. Here’s the release of the ring! Congrats, Rene and Shelly!

Here’s my dad. I caught him in a good pose, and it worked out well. I like the twinkle in the eyes! Click on the image, then click on it again, to see it in a bigger size.

Snow Day Revitalizes the Kids within the Mids March 2, 2009

I went to bed last night with the knowledge that we would have at least a two hour delay from classes today. As soon as I heard that news, I quit studying and watched some youtube videos—I think it’s fair to say that was the typical response from most mids. More or less, I moved my study hour period to this morning. Worst case scenario, I’d study before my French test. Best case scenario, school gets canceled and my lack of preparation pays off.

Hoorah. The gamble paid dividends.

I woke up to my roommate checking his email. “School’s canceled!”

“Who sent the message?” I was immediately awake and aware that it could be a prank.

“It’s good.” He replied. We both were relieved. I rolled over in bed, and Rene hopped back in his. We both let out a long “Yesssssssssss” at the same time.

“Too bad we still have inspection.” Our company has uniform inspections every Monday morning at 0650.

“Yeah.  Sucks.”

“At least there’s no school.”

Midshipmen love snow, just like little kids. Really little kids. If you could come up on deck, you’d see many frantically searching for foul weather gear so they could go out and have a snowball fight. Once they get outside, they fight and roll around until they are too soaked and cold to move. Then they return to Bancroft Hall with rosy cheeks and squeaky boots. Their puddles follow them everywhere they roam—surely their mothers would tell them to quit getting water everywhere.

Their resourcefulness is unparalleled. As I was taking a walk on the yard, a group walked by on their way to Hospital Point to snowboard. None of them had a snowboard, however; they had an inflatable pool toy, a boogie board, and an ironing board. “Good luck,” I said as they trampled by, pegging each other with snow.

A single snowmid stood in T-Court at attention.

I took many shots around the Yard, but this one of the chapel is my favorite. It is a panoramic compilation of 5 different photographs.

MONSTER TRUCK RALLY!!! March 1, 2009

Last night, my platoon went to Baltimore’s First Mariner Arena to watch the truck rally. With the knowledge of the PRT (physical readiness test) less than 12 hours away, we let our cares go in the fumes, screams, and grease of the arena. It was gross. It was loud. It was awesome. I laughed so hard that my abs hurt, probably knocking 10 sit ups off of my score this morning. I’d say it was worth it.

We had a great time, and we all lost our voices. 1st and 2nd class could wear civies. 3rd and 4th class had to wear blue over khaki–a uniform that doesn’t quite match sleeveless trucker shirts and mullets.
